Democrat Carney Hypocritically Silent on Possible Corruption in Caucus

Democrat State Rep is Quick to Accuse Opponents, but Turns a Blind Eye Toward Colleagues

COLUMBUS – Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges today called on Democratic State Representative John Patrick Carney to address possible corruption in his own caucus.

“Ohio voters deserve an auditor with a proven record they can trust. Unfortunately, Carney’s record shows he can’t be trusted to be the state’s top fiscal watchdog. He’s been running for auditor for the past 18 months, launching the Democrats’ political attacks while ignoring corruption in his own party. Voters could never trust him to do his job in a fair and impartial manner,” said Borges.

House Democrats appointed the former Democratic Treasurer to his current house seat on an unanimous vote on May 9, 2012. Among the Democrats voting in favor was John Patrick Carney. At the time of his appointment Boyce would have known about the federal probe into his office for two and a half years.

“Did Kevin Boyce tell his colleagues about the corruption probe into his office?” Borges asked. “If he did, why did Carney think it was acceptable to appoint him to office and keep the information secret for three years? If he did not inform his colleagues of the investigation, do they condone him keeping it secret for three years and then claiming to be shocked about the investigation? Will he demand the truth from his colleague? Most important, if he knew about the corruption probe would they have appointed him to a position of public trust?”

To get to the bottom of the obfuscation by Ohio Democrats the Ohio Republican Party also announced that it would be submitting open records requests for correspondence by Carney concerning Rep. Boyce.

ORP Chairman Borges said, “It will be interesting to see what, if anything, John Patrick Carney has thought privately about his colleague that he hasn’t shared with the public.”

In 2012, Democrat Boyce was appointed by Ohio House Democrats to replace former Democrat Representative W. Carlton Weddington following his conviction in an FBI corruption probe. This same FBI probe also resulted in the indictment of Democrat legislator Clayton Luckie for 49 counts related to corruption.
